BCS Literacy Initiatives
We have successfully designed and implemented a Whole School Literacy Plan which aims to increase the knowledge and skills of both teachers and students. At BCS we have developed a range of initiatives to ensure that Literacy is a focus of all teaching and learning activities
BCS Literacy Team - comprises of one representative from each faculty and meets on a fortnightly basis to develop cross-curricula Literacy strategies.
Raising the profile of Literacy across the school has been a major focus. We have achieved this through a range of activities including:
ü A Young Writers’ Workshop - with children’s author Alan Horsfield.
ü The ‘Write Side Up’ competition - Bulahdelah Central’s own young writers’ competition.
ü Year 7 Reading With Technology – a program designed specifically for assisting a small group of Year 7 students to improve their reading skills.
ü Year 7 & 8 Glossary – a booklet covering key terms from all subject areas.
ü Premier’s Reading Challenge – a great way to encourage students to read.
ü Regional Debating & Public Speaking competitions.
