Parents and Citizens

 Some BCS history...

BCS P & C are strong supporters of the school

 Did you know?...

  Parents and Citizens Association Incorporated

The Bulahdelah Central School P & C Association was formed on 16th June, 1925 and celebrated its 80th birthday in 2005. It was formed because of the urgent need to have improvements for the school buildings implemented.

The first president was Dr. H. Leighton Kesteven and the first Secretary was Mr. Mervyn A.S. Richards. They promptly petitioned the Department of Education for extensive renovations to all buildings which were carried out in 1926.

Between 1927 and 1945 records show that the P & C Association purchased tools for the Manual Arts room, a phonograph and six records, two flags, a duplicator and a projector. At this time electricity was installed at the school and the school residence.

In February 1945 the Association began to move towards upgrading the existing status of the school to a Central School. They surveyed all the parents of the surrounding small schools who were in agreement and arranged for transport for these students.

In 1953 a separate parent body was formed. Known originally as the Mother’s Auxiliary Club, it was changed to the Kindergarten Club, the Infants Club (commonly known as the Mother’s Club) and finally the Primary Support Group. It merged with the P & C in the 1990s.

In 1954 the Department of Education acknowledged the need for a special building for the secondary department. Tenders were not forthcoming so the P & C decided to form its own building committee. On 10 th October 1955 the new school was built and quickly became known as the science block. It had 3 rooms – classroom, science lab and a home science room. (It is now known as the Food Technology building.)

The Bulahdelah Central School Parents and Citizens Association Inc gained state wide recognition as the first P & C to build their own school.

On 7 th March 2007 the inaugural P & C Day was held in recognition of 100 years of Parents and Citizens Associations in New South Wales. The day is set aside for the school community to celebrate the wonderful contributions that P & C Associations make to the public schools and to recognize the valued partnerships between schools and their communities. The BCS P & C Association Inc meets on the second Monday of each month in school terms. An invitation is extended to all parents and community members who wish to have input into BCS to become a P & C member and attend these meetings. You will be assured of a friendly welcome.
